What happens in a session?
We begin the session by exploring what brings you here and what you would like to leave with
Then I will guide you through a co-meditation practice to tune in with what’s most calling your attention from your body. Although I act as your guide in this session, we allow your body to take the lead.
We simply meet the sensations presented; the contractions, expansions, and numbness. We recognise that there is nothing to fix or change, only messages calling your attention.
Often the instinctual response to meeting these sensations is to create a story around them. For example, you may notice your back is stiff and you will probably go into the story of why this is there right now – perhaps you have been sitting in your car for too long.
I will gently encourage you away from these stories to meet the experience simply as a sensation in your body.
This can feel confusing to begin with because you will be going against natural instincts to avoid or make sense of the experience. We simply note the instinct to avoid or make sense with nothing to fix or change and then we continue to explore.
As the timing presents, I may invite you to try some exercises to gain perspective on the experience. This can include standing back to observe the experience or to invite the opposite of a belief, for example.
We always let the body guide and sometimes the exercises are accessible and sometimes they are not. We simply notice that as nothing to fix or change and we continue to explore.
Each session is a unique, one-time experience and we never know what we’re going to find when we go into explore the body. This creates a wonderful opportunity for new insight and/or to the inaccessible places that are not ready to open up.
We simply notice with no need to fix or change. We never force as this only creates more stuckness.
Throughout the session, it’s important for you to know that you are in the driving seat, I am simply the navigator. Whilst we set a time on the co-meditation, at any time if it feels like enough or you may reach a place where you have enough insight, we can bring this practice to a close with a brief integration.
Integration is a set of reflective questions.
We will complete the session reflecting upon what you brought to the session and what came out for you. It may or may not be related but we trust that the body shows us what is most important right here, right now.
What happens after the session?
After the session, I am available for email or WhatsApp follow up if you feel this is necessary.
Whilst this is delivered as a single-session experience, you may want to return for further sessions in the future. I encourage you to leave a month between sessions.
Some words of caution
We never know what we’re going to find when we enter this practice. Whist we aim to complete each session in a resolved place, this is not always available. It is my experience that we cannot force this as it only creates more stuckness, we simply note. We may discuss what further resources you need to support yourself after the session. I have a wealth of resources and references that may help you. Ultimately, I trust that your body will only take us to the place it is ready to go. Even if this may feel extremely vulnerable, that only presents when you are ready for it.
The co-meditation technique
This technique is based upon the practice of Integrative Restoration (iRest) Yoga Nidra, which has been shown to be effective in scientific trials for conditions including chronic pain, sleep problems, depression and anxiety, and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD).
My coaching practice is trauma-informed and I have been a student of iRest for 6 years.
